Just a short half an hour north of Lisbon, the Royal Convent and Palace of Mafra is the most important baroque monument in Portugal.
After strolling through this magnificent palace, we will head to another equally special place where you can participate in several activities in a stunningly beautiful setting.
This magical day away from Lisbon will encourage you to explore deeper and savor the different regions of our country.
Your hotel or apartment
We will pick your up at your hotel and head towards Mafra, a breathtaking limestone and marble building from this region, that covers an area of almost four hectares (37.790 m2), including 1.200 rooms, more than 4.700 doors and windows, 156 stairways and 29 inner yards and courtyards. We are certain that you will be delighted not only by its magnificence but also by its precious collection of 36 thousand books, one of the most important libraries in Europe.
After this, we will drive a short 20 minutes to another idyllic setting. Imagine arriving in an old-fashioned Portuguese village, slowing down a pace winding through narrow streets, passing picturesque whitewashed houses with flower pots at the windows, a breeze coming in from the Atlantic, the reassuring sounds of the countryside.
Now imagine entering through the big gates of a country estate, surrounded by ivy-covered walls, a manor house, a Baroque chapel with bell tower, lush gardens, green lawns, mature trees and exotic palms, in the background rolling vineyards and eucalyptus forests as far as the eye can see.
This is where we will have lunch and have a range of optional activities for you. At the end of the day, you will wonder how so much magic can happen so close to Lisbon.
